Spectrum College in neighbouring Sri Lanka signed an agreement with the Embassy of Maldives on Tuesday to provide special discounts for Maldivian students that enrol in the college.

The agreement was signed by Spectrum College’s chairman Dr Sharfraz Azad, and Maldivian ambassador Mohamed Hussain Shareef on behalf of the Maldivian Educational and Cultural Centre (MECC) operated under the embassy.

According to the Embassy of Maldives, a 75 percent discount on administrative fees will be provided for students that enrol at Spectrum College via MECC from December 1 onwards up to three months. Students that enrol via MECC over the following nine months will receive a 50 percent discount on administrative fees.

Spectrum College charges an administrative fee of USD 655 (Rs 100,000) from Maldivian students. A 75 percent discount would lower the fee to USD 165 while a 50 percent discount would mean USD 328.

The embassy also revealed that the college has agreed to provide a scholarship each year for one student with special needs.

Meanwhile, MECC has decided to assist with the inclusion of the Maldives’ local Dhivehi language as a subject in Spectrum College, to be taught at the standards set by the education ministry.
