The fourth Maldives Investment Forum is to be held in Dubai on December 18 and will include the tourism sector this year.

The forum previously scheduled for Qatar will now be held in Dubai’s International Convention and Exhibition Center. This is the largest forum of its kind organized to introduce and present investment opportunities available in the Maldives to foreign investors.

Executive Coordinator at the Ministry of Trade, Abdulla Shiyaz, stated that the forum aims to strengthen the economy by presenting the investment prospects that became available with the changes in the Constitution, especially with the creation of the special economic zone (SEZ), to foreign investors.

He added that though this year’s forum plans to include the tourism sector, it will not focus on boosting tourist arrivals like in other marketing fairs, and instead will be a platform to discover investment opportunities in the field.

Local companies participating in this year’s forum include Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), Male Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Treetop Investments, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), Bank of Maldives Ltd (BML), Hotel and Resort Construction s(HRC), Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) and State Trading Organisation (STO) will be participating in this year’s forum.

Furthermore, participants would be able to engage and listen to ministers and prominent businessmen from the Maldives and the United Arab Emirates share their vision about investing in the Maldives. A presentation introducing the investment projects available in the Maldives for investors will also be viewed at the forum.

The investment forum initiated by President Abdulla Yameen focuses on strengthening the economy by presenting the economic prospects available in the Maldives and attracting foreign investors. The Maldives had previously held three investments forums; last year it was held in the Indian capital New Delhi, while the previous two were held in the Chinese capital Beijing and Singapore.
