President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has called for more women engagement in nation-building. The President made this appeal while speaking at the closing ceremony of the Women’s Symposium ‘Kanbalunge Mahaasintha’, organised by Progressive Party of Maldives. The President was accompanied by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim.
Highlighting the importance this administration gives to women empowerment, the President pointed out the administration’s decision to appoint 40% women to the board of directors of State companies. He also expressed his confidence that this target could be attained in the near future.
President Yameen also shed light on the compassionate nature of women. In this regard, he stated that women’s humanity boosted the peace and harmony of a country, and helped maintain stability among the people.
