Chief Superintendent of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed has been appointed as the security commander for the 2018 presidential elections.

The police have confirmed his appointment; however, no further details were given.

Rasheed had been in charge of security for last year’s local council elections as well, where over 3,000 police officers had been active in different parts of the country. In addition to this, he had led investigations for some of the high profile criminal cases in the Maldives.

While Rasheed has been appointed, it can be noted that major changes were brought to the high ranks of Maldives Police Service recently, some of which were made after terminating certain high-ranking officers.
