The Ministry of Health has said that it made the mass job vacancy announcement last week in an attempt to increase employment opportunities for Maldivian citizens.
The health ministry announced on Thursday that it would be recruiting 160 specialist doctors and 631 nurses for various health services managed by the ministry.
Speaking to Mihaaru, a spokesperson from the ministry said that it will be employing more local professionals into the health sector, instead of bringing foreign experts from abroad.
“Currently, we have a lot of foreign nurses working at places managed by [the ministry]. We’ll be prioritising locals when we’re hiring nurses for our most recent announcement,” the spokesperson said.
When asked whether the ministry would be able to find that many local nurses and doctors, the health ministry’s spokesperson said that the announcement was made to estimate the number of local professionals who are available, and also to see whether there are individuals who would be interested in these jobs.
The health ministry had allotted MVR 30,990 as the basic salary of full-time doctors, with a service allowance MVR 10,200 and other amenities.
The salary for full-time nurses is MVR 5,610, with a service allowance of MVR 2,500 for nurses, according to the ministry’s announcement.
