First lady Fathimath Ibrahim met with the principals from schools in the capital Male, on Tuesday.
Almost all the principals of Male schools including Majeediyya, Aminiya, Hiriyaa, Kalaafaanu, Imadudin, Thajuddeen, Iskandhar and the Centre for Highter Education (CHSE) joined the meeting that was held at Mulee-aage, the official residence of presidents.
According to the first lady’s Office, the meeting was to find out the challenges schools were facing as the academic year starts next Sunday. The principals shared concerns of lack of facilities and space in the schools and the first lady had given assurance that they will resolve these issues.
While the Education Ministry had said that they were very well prepared for the starting academic year there was a recent announcement for over 30 principals are over 400 teachers for different schools in the atolls.
The education ministry said that this announcement was done to ensure more opportunities are given to the local teachers.
