MP Faris submits complaints over Supreme Court judges

Detained MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon has submitted disciplinary complaints regarding five Supreme Court judges to the Judicial Service Commission, Mihaaru has reported.

The complaint is about the judges’ failure to create regulations that, under the Criminal Procedures Act, are stipulated to be made within an allocated time period, said Maumoon Hameed from Faris’s legal team.

The complaints have been filed against Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Supreme Court judges Abdulla Arif, Ali Hameed Mohamed, Adam Mohamed Abdulla and Dr Ahmed Abdulla Didi.

The courts are following outdated procedures as, according to the Criminal Procedures Act enacted last July, regulations need to be created by the Supreme Court within the first three months of enactment.

The son of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom has been detained since July on bribery charges.
