A man who stole clothes off a drying rack in a house in capital Male has been sentenced to four months and 24 days in prison by the Criminal Court.
The court revealed on Sunday that the man was sentenced on two separate charges last week for the crime that he had committed in August.
He was found guilty of stealing, for which he was given a one-month and six-day sentence, and he was given an additional three months and 18 days for trespassing.
Reportedly, the man from Kulhudhuffushi in the northern Haa Dhaalu Atoll had broken into a house in Male and stole a shirt and a pair of jeans that had been left on the house’ balcony to dry.
He had confessed to stealing the items in the preliminary hearings as well.
The new Penal Code allows a sentence to be mitigated if the defendant pleads guilty during the initial trial.
