The Maldives on Sunday appointed three Goodwill Ambassadors for the disabled, who will do voluntary services for the rights of disabled people.

At a ceremony held to mark the International Day of Disabled Persons, Zihunath Hassan, Mariyam Fazunee and Ahmed Ansam were appointed as the Goodwill Ambassadors for the disabled for a duration of two years.

Television presenter Zihunath advocates for the physically challenged as a parent, Fazunee works as a teacher for the hearing impaired, and Ansam is the founder of the Down Syndrome Association.

Gender Minister Zeneesha Shaheed stated that the main focus of the ambassadors would be to work with the ministry to empower and advocate for the rights of the disabled. She expressed hopes that the ministry would receive their full cooperation in their voluntary work.
