MVR 100 million to boost Maldives tourism

Tourism Ministry plans to splash MVR 100 million on tourism marketing in 2018. Speaking at the new year’s function, Tourism Minister, Mr. Moosa Zameer indicated the importance of focusing on the MICE segment, especially events related to festivals, music shows, and other events.

Maldives witnessed a 7% growth in tourism arrivals in 2017 compared to 2016, and a significant development to the inventory of beds. Over 22 new resort properties have been unveiled in 2017 and expected to showcase another 20-30 new properties in 2018.

Additionally, the gateway to Maldives, Velana International Airport, pushes aggressively to open the new terminals and runway to accommodate the growing supply of tourism properties.
