MIRA files 12 lawsuits over tax evasion

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has filed 12 cases of tax evasion at the Civil Court.

The lawsuits were filed on September 27 against companies and individuals for evading the Goods and Services Tax (GST) they owed to MIRA.

Collectively, all 12 parties owe MVR 5 million to the state.

The Civil Court has accepted and registered all the cases.

Meanwhile, more cases filed by MIRA against various bodies for evading other taxes and fees are already ongoing at the lower court. The total amount owed to the state currently amounts to over MVR 2 billion.
