Yameen cuts ribbons for new harbours on northern atolls tour

President Abdulla Yameen cut ribbons for new harbours on three northern islands Sunday at the start of a tour of the Noonu, Lhaviyani and Baa atolls.

On Noonu Maalhendhoo, Yameen opened a new mosque donated by Saudi Arabia and a harbour built with assistance from the Islamic Development Bank. He went on to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for sewerage facilities on Hen’badhoo, a project funded by Champa Brothers, and open new harbours on Holhudhoo and Velidhoo.

Addressing island communities on each stop, Yameen spoke of his economic development agenda, condemned alleged foreign interference in domestic politics and criticised the alliance between the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party and its former rivals.

The three-day tour includes visits to the islands of Hinnavaru in Lhaviyani atoll and Kendhoo, Eydhafushi and Thulhadhoo in Baa atoll to inaugurate harbours and mark the completion of land reclamation and beach protection projects.
