Summer Island Maldives has won the prestigious award for ‘Leading Beach Resort / Hotel’ in South Asia, at the annual South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) held at Equator Village, Addu Atoll.

The 4* resort, located in North Male’ atoll, fought off competition from rivals in the Maldives, Sri Lanka and India to win the award, which was presented to Summer Island’s Resort Manager Mari Shareef at a gala event on Saturday evening.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Mariya Shareef said she was delighted to receive the award, which was recognition of Summer Island Maldives’ “barefoot, friendly, and affordable” service.

Summer Island Maldives is one of the country’s first resorts and remains wholly Maldivian owned. It was recently refurbished, and now boasts fresh and zesty rooms, award-winning restaurants, a rustic beach bar, a dive school and a spa offering a range of wellness treatments and massages.

Since launching in 2016, SATA has quickly established a reputation as South Asia’s most prestigious travel awards. The awards have been endorsed by tourism organizations from across the region, including the Sri Lankan Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Indian Confederation of Associated Tour Operators, the Nepal Tourism Board, and the Maldives Association of Travel Agents & Tour Operators (MATATO).

Summer Island Maldives beat off competition for the Leading Beach Resort / Hotel category from 21 other resorts and hotels located in the Maldives, India and Sri Lanka.

Mariya Shareef added: “It’s not just the beautiful beach and the healthy environment that makes Summer Island Maldives so special, but also the amazing team, their hospitality, and their hard work. I am really proud that our wonderful resort has been recognized at SATA.”
