More International Airlines Are Set to Begin Operations in the Maldives

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) have revealed that more airlines are set to begin operations in the Maldives.

The Managing Director of MACL, Adil Moosa stated that two airlines will begin operations by next month including the National airline of France, “Air France” for Paris-Maldives routes and “GoAir”, a low-cost carrier based in Mumbai for Mumbai-Maldives routes. In addition to this, the national airline of Italy, “Alitalia” is scheduled to begin routes within this season and China’s “Lucky Air “on January 2018 respectively.

Moreover, Adil stated that they are in discussion with 3 more airlines including Singapore’s “Silk Air” to increase its routes between Singapore and Maldives, Emirates to increase flight operations and “Gulf Air”, the national airline of Bahrain to commence operations to Maldives.

According to Adil, with the opening of the new runway in Velana International Airport, international flights to Maldives will increase massively which will result in an increase in the arrivals of tourists from various destinations and will have a positive outcome on the economy of Maldives.
