Mahaa Jarraafu reaches Kulhudhuffushi port

MTCC’s Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger, Mahaa Jarraafu has docked at Kulhudhuffushi port on the evening of 25th October 2017. According to MTCC, “Mahaa Jarraafu” has entered the harbour area and will soon be starting land reclamation for Kulhudhuffushi Airport.

CEO of MTCC, Mr Ibrahim Ziyath stated that the project will be starting in November and that it is a project worth MVR 53.4 million. The project is expected to be completed within 180 days.

This new Dredger is 92.95 meters long and 16.30 meters wide. It has a dredging depth of 50 meters and a 3700 cubic meter hopper. Mahaa Jarraafu was constructed by IHC Holland in Nantong Rainbow shipyard, China. USD 36 Million was spent by MTCC to acquire this vessel and it is expected to bring great projects their way. Recently Mr Ziyath also announced that an enquiry regarding a land reclamation offer was received from a Malaysian company.

Dredging was started by the company in 1995 and it is one the company’s core activities. Mahaa Jarraafu will be an addition to the largest dredging fleet in Maldives. MTCC is the largest dredging contractor in the country and innovating advanced technologies to improve this service is a major effort by the public company.
