BENGALURU: The eighth edition of Ekuverin, the fortnight-long Indo-Maldives joint military exercise, will begin in Belagavi on Friday. The previous edition of the annual bilateral exercise between the Indian Army and Maldives National Defence Force was held at Kadhdhoo, Laamu Atoll, the Maldives in December 2016.
“Ekuverin means friends in Maldivian language, and the focus of the exercise is to acquaint both armies with each other’s operating procedures in the backdrop of counter-terrorist operations in an urban or semi-urban environment under the United Nations charter. The aim to enhance interoperability between the two armies,” the defence ministry said.
This year’s exercise will see the contingents hone their tactical and technical skills, besides giving an opportunity to the armies to activate the Joint Operations Centre at Belagavi.
