As the resorts across the Maldives celebrate the festive season, a strong demand from visitors spending Christmas and New Year in the Maldives has been recorded.
From November, tourist arrivals started increasing as the festive season came closer. The peak season will last until April. While the duration is cold winter in a majority of the countries in the northern hemisphere, Maldives will have a dry sunny weather due to its position near the equator and this is favourable among plenty of travellers.
This time of the year, resorts in the Maldives prepare special programs for the tourists including celebrations for festivities. Some resorts announce their festive programs on media while others publish the program on their website.
In recent years, due to the increase of supply and competition, occupancy of the festive season in most resorts was not as good as it used to be. However, this year most resorts noted the improvement. According to some resorts, this is due to special promotions and exciting festive programs.
The recent boom in visitor numbers also saw the main airport Velana International Airport becoming very busy and crowded. In addition, high private jet traffic was also recorded. According to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) about 130 jets are expected to arrive in the Maldives over the next 10 days. The airport is catering to 12 jets a day on average.
With the current positive developments observed in the Maldives tourism industry, growth is expected in the future.
