Boy in Addu City Link Road accident passes away

The 13-year-old boy, who was severely injured in an accident that occurred on Addu City’s Link Road on Tuesday, has passed away while being treated at Hithadhoo Regional Hospital.

Arsham Ibrahim passed away on Tuesday afternoon, at around 4:50 p.m., the hospital confirmed.

On Tuesday morning, a motorbike had collided with a pick-up truck that belonged to the Ministry of Environment and Energy. The two individuals on the motorbike sustained severe injuries, despite wearing helmets when the incident occurred.

The other man who was injured in the accident is still being treated at the hospital.

The pick-up truck and the motorbike were also badly damaged in the accident.

Accidents are frequent on Addu City’s Link Road that connects the islands of Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Feydhoo and Gan, where the international airport is located. The 16-kilometre road is the second longest causeway in the Maldives. Every year there are several reports of accidents on this road, some of which are fatal.
