The issue was brought into a state of concern by the guest houses to the Guesthouse Association which in turn resulted in effective conversations to bring a solution to this issue.

The circular sent to the guesthouses by the association stated that due to the concerns of guest houses, they had conversed about the issue with relevant authorities through tourism ministry. This conversation has to output the decision of allowing guesthouses to pay water and electricity bills from December 2019 to July 2020 to be paid within 6 months period, divided.

The decision was taken with the assistance and involvement of State Electric Company (STELCO), Fanaka Corporation Ltd., and Male’ Water & Sewerage Company Pvt. Ltd. (MWSC).

Although the Maldives has opened its borders on the 15th of July, guesthouses are to be officially opened for business during August 2020.
