Vice President Abdulla Jihad has attended the commemoration of the International Day of Older Persons, organised by the Ministry of Gender and Family, held at the Maldives Islamic University.
During the function, Vice President Jihad inaugurated the country’s first National Policy on Older Persons.
The Vice President, speaking during the event, stated that the policy was an administration initiative to protect and promote the rights of the Elderly, highlighting the need for continued support from Government institutions in the policy’s implementation.
In his speech, the Vice President thanked President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom for his efforts and contributions to the policy.
Speaking further, Vice President Abdulla Jihad said that, while the youth was the nation’s greatest asset, the nation’s elderly persons should always be treasured as their experience, and expertise, formed an important contribution to societal development.
