World Bank : Outgoing Country Director Shares Highlights of her Four Years in the Maldives

The outgoing World Bank Country Director for the Maldives, Idah Z. Pswarayi-Riddihough shares the highlights of her four years in the country. She was also the World Bank Country Director for Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Top three highlights:

  1. I was privileged to enjoy a strong partnership with the Maldivian government, forming close working relationships with officials, based on mutual trust. And, by extension of this relationship, the World Bank has been able to serve the Maldivian people.
  2. Our work maintained a strong focus on climate change, supporting disaster risk management and building resilience into everything the World Bank does.
  3. The steadfast collaboration between the Maldivian government, the people and our development partners enabled us to respond rapidly to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The beautiful islands of Maldives and its people will always hold a special place in my thoughts. My experiences here will live with me as I take on my new assignment as the Country Director for Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles and Comoros. I will be based in Maputo, handling a very diverse portfolio that covers both low income and high income countries, some of which are as threatened by climate change as the Maldives.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the officials of the Maldivian government with whom I worked, as well as our development partners and representatives of the private sector and civil society.

Thank you and Shukriya.
