Northern, Central Maldives hit with bad weather

White Alert has been issued to the Northern and Central atolls of Maldives, as the country hit with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts widespread rain with a few heavy showers and thunderstorms to prevail in Maldives through Friday.

Surface winds are expected to vary between West to North-Westerly at 15 to 25 miles per hour.

Winds may gust up to 50 miles per hour during showers and seas are expected to be generally rough.

White Alert has been issued to the Northern and Central atolls of Maldives from 6:30 am this Thursday to 1 pm. Heavy rain, thunderstorms and average strong winds of 23 to 29 miles per hour with gusts of 50 miles per hour are expected during the period.

Maldives Meteorological Service advises caution to all seafarers.
