The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that the mountainous dredger commission by President Abdulla Yameen will arrive in the Maldives by October this year.
Holland’s IHC crafted the ‘Mahaa Jarraafu’ in China’s ‘Nang-Ton Rainbow Marine Technology Boatyard’ for an initial payment of USD 36 million.
The MTCC has revealed its hope that the dredger will be used for projects outside the country, while significantly slashing expenses for reclamation projects conducted within the country.
While more recent specifications are yet to be revealed, MTCC’s head Ibrahim Ziyath had previously announced that the Mahaa Jarraafu can collect 50 meters underwater, 90 horizontally, and hold 3700 cubic meters of soil at a time.
