Ministry of Higher Education Seeks Institutes to Carry Out Technical and Vocational Courses

Ministry of Higher Education has announced that the Ministry is seeking institutes to carry out 12 technical and vocational courses.

Funded by the World Bank, “Maldives: Enhancing Employability and Resilience of Youth Project”, the project is being administered by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), with a Project Steering Committee that will be co-chaired by the MoHE and the Ministry of Economic Development (MED).

The objective of the project is to improve the relevance of technical and vocational skills and foster entrepreneurship to promote youth employment in priority sectors: Tourism, Information Communication and Technology and Tourism related Construction, as well other sectors identified in the National Training Needs Analysis (TNA).

The technical and vocational courses offered under this initiative include housekeeping, laundry operations, ticket and reservations, water sports, inventory management, fitness instruction, jewellery design and manufacturing, surf guide, snorkelling guide, boat operations, lifeguard and sports fishing guide.

Training providers are expected to have a minimum of 3 years of experience in conducting vocational education training courses and is registered under the Ministry of Higher Education. They are further expected to have the capacity to conduct programs online and in a suitable physical location. A key lecturer has to be suggested for each of the courses by the training provider.

Ministry of Higher Education said that the Ministry intends to give the opportunity for various institutes to carry out similar projects and hopes that this will assist in the development of the youth in the Maldivian community.

The announcement released by the Ministry requests interested institutes to email to [email protected] before 10th December 2020. The estimated quote will be available for collection at the Ministry of Higher Education (Ma. Fen Building, 2nd floor) on 23rd December 2020.
