Maldives Transparency and Anti-Corruption Conference 2020 Has Commenced

Transparency Maldives in collaboration with Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives has commenced the 3-day Maldives Transparency and Anti-Corruption Conference 2020 on 7th December.

Held virtually via ZOOM, this is the first edition of the conference. The event intends to increase public awareness on corruption and share information on the impact and risks of it in various sectors.

The conference will see sessions from leading figures and professionals from Maldives National University, Local Government Authority, CDE Consulting, Anti-Corruption, International Republican Institute, Maldives Journalist Association, Transparency Maldives, The International Foundation for Electoral Systems, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Center for International Private Enterprise, Ministry of Finance, Auditor General’s Office and Westminster Foundation For Democracy.

Topics for the event include corruption risk management, challenges in reporting corruption in the Maldives, the role of parliament in combatting corruption, minimizing corruption risks in state-owned enterprises and corruption in the public sector.

The conference will also showcase a case study by Dhahau Naseem on “Film for Accountability: The Story of 52 Families”. This session will highlight the importance of public procurement transparency and decentralization.
