Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger “Mahaa Jarraafu” was officially handed over to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc. (MTCC). Company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ibrahim Ziyath received the official documents of Dredger on behalf of MTCC.
This new Dredger is 92.95 meters long and 16.30 meters wide. It has a dredging depth of 50 meters and a 3700 cubic meter hopper. “Mahaa Jarraafu” was constructed by IHC Holland in Nantong Rainbow shipyard, China.
USD 36 Million was spent by MTCC to acquire this vessel and it is expected to bring great projects their way. Recently, in an event held for the company Share Rights Issue, Chairman Mr Ahmed Niyaz stated that such a huge dredger could gain interest from foreign countries which do land reclamation and that it could be marketed overseas. He further mentioned that plans and preparations are going on to improve and expand business horizons of the company in this area.
Dredging was started by the company in 1995 and it is one of the company’s core activities. The New dredger will be an addition to the largest dredging fleet in Maldives. MTCC is the largest dredging contractor in the country and innovating advanced technologies to improve this service is a major effort by the public company.
