Fenaka Receives Multiple International Awards; MD Ahmed Saeed Wins CEO of the Year!

State utility company, Fenaka Corporation Limited has won four awards at the 2020 Asian Power Awards, one of the most prestigious power industry awards in Asia.

Fenaka has won awards for its central power station project on L. Gan, solar panel projects in GDh. Madaveli and Hoadehdhoo. Additionally, the Managing Director of Fenaka Ahmed Saeed Mohamed has won the award for CEO of the Year.

Fenaka said regarding their current achievement that international corporations have accepted the hard work of Fenaka done to reach its true position with the changes brought to the running of the company on 2019 by overcoming obstacles and fully fulfilling responsibilities with a headstrong aim.

According to Fenaka, the Asian Power Awards are based on the judgment of independent judges, and that major utility companies in the Asian region take part in the award ceremony. Fifty companies won awards at the 2020 event in which Fenaka won the four following awards:

  • Powerplant Upgrade of the Year (from the Maldives) – This award was received by the central power station project in L.Gan. Other receivers of the awards in this category include companies in India, Japan, China and Korea.
  • Power Utility of the Year (from the Maldives) – this award was given to the most noteworthy utility company among the nominated companies from different countries.
  • Solar Power Project of the Year (from the Maldives) – this award was received by the solar power projects in GDh. Madaveli and Hoadehdhoo.
  • CEO of the Year (all countries) – this award was won by the Managing Director of Fenaka, Ahmed Saeed for his remarkable contributions in changing the overall outlook of Fenaka. Since its inception, Fenaka has been incurring losses annually, and as a result of the changes brought by MD Saeed, Fenaka made a profit for the first time in 2019.

Fenaka Corporation Limited was established by decree during the administration of President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan, as a state-owned company with a hundred per cent government shares.

The key objective of the company was to ensure sustainable primary services to the populace in the regions of the country other than Male’, the supply of clean water, sewerage and electricity, and to establish an environmentally friendly waste management system.
