A special five-day workshop on investigative journalism organized by Sri Lanka’s Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) has successfully concluded.
The workshop which began on 13th November was conducted in collaboration with the Addu Women’s Association (AWA). Over 25 Maldivian journalists from TV stations and Media outlets participated in the workshop.
Conducted virtually over Zoom, topics for the sessions included public service journalism, fact-checking, journalism ethics and fundamentals of investigative reporting.
The mentors for the workshop included CEO of Nepal Investigative Multimedia Journalism Network (NIMJN), Rajneesh Bhandari and the Center for Investigative Reporting – Sri Lanka’s Executive Director, Dilrukshi Handunnetti.
Former Minister of Health, Dr Mariyam Shakeela highlighted upon the importance and need of investigative journalism in the Maldives. She further expressed her hope to see the work by participants publicized in the future.
The initiative by CIR was supported by the High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and Maldives.
