Mr. Ahmed Mamdhooh | Acting Managing Director of MRDC

Mr. Ahmed Mamdhooh is the Acting Managing Director of Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC). Starting off his career in immigration in 1997, he later went on to start his own business.

In 2014, he joined MRDC and worked his way to the position where he is today.

How did you get started?

I have always been interested in the flow of people across international boundaries.  I joined Maldives Immigration in 1997 where I felt like I get to travel the world without ever leaving my desk.  I met so many people from so many different international backgrounds.

I always want to try something different and something innovative. When I worked in immigration harbour section I helped them build new rules and regulations. Designed new stamps and implemented new ideas. I worked there for a perfect 8 years. After I left immigration I started my own business. In 2004 I got the chance to be involved politically.

I was not always in the highest position in any company. In 2014, I started from being part of the Maldives road development corporation team to leading the team myself by 2017. It has not always been a smooth road to cross in fact, it was a messy ride with lots of hurdles to overcome.

What would you consider as successes?

When people appreciate my work and my loyalty that is my biggest success. I believe I am in this position because of it. I dedicate my success to his Excellency Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom for the opportunity that he graced upon me.

Challenges

I believe my whole career has been full of challenges which made me confident and the successful person I am.

However, the greatest challenge I’ve faced in my career to date has to be the key role I played in helping my company survive the recent events. I learnt to never lose hope.

What do you do differently?

I believe that every situation itself requires a different perspective. Nothing can be same while making important decisions which affects so many people and so many livelihoods. Sometimes it is scary to be responsible for such important tasks but my values are characterized by openness, a desire for improvement, lifelong learning, self-responsibility, and accountability. Give people a chance to do things that are outside the job description. Who knows, they may be quite successful!
