Two men have been seriously injured in another accident that occurred on southernmost Addu City’s Link Road.
A motorbike had collided with a pick-up truck, leaving the two people on the motorbike with severe injuries, witnesses reported.
The witnesses also said that the motorbike had been speeding and spun out of control when it collided with the pick-up truck, which belonged to the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
The two individuals were even wearing helmets when the accident occurred, witnesses said.
Both the motorbike and the pick-up truck were also damaged in the accident.
According to the police, the two individuals are now being treated at Hithadhoo Regional Hospital.
Accidents are frequent on Addu City’s Link Road that connects the islands of Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Feydhoo and Gan, where the international airport is located. The 16-kilometre road is the second longest causeway in the Maldives. Every year there are several reports of accidents on this road, some of which are fatal.
