Be among the first to check in to the Maldives’ latest arrivals, Ozen Reserve Bolifushi and the wellness-focused Kagi Maldives Spa Island.

Not long after the Maldives has started welcoming tourists back—taking every precaution to ensure safety in the face of the global health crisis—hoteliers are forging ahead with resort development and opening plans. Two private islands resorts, Ozen Reserve Bolifushi and Kagi Maldives Spa Island have made a December debut ahead of the holidays. Each offering an entirely different experience, these newly opened retreats give luxury travelers yet another reason to dream about their next escape here.

Kagi Maldives Spa Island

The first of its kind for this part of the world, Kagi Maldives Spa Island focuses on providing a 360-degree wellness experience. This wellness-focused island resort promises a holistic retreat for mind, body and soul.

The celebrated architect Yuji Yamazaki oversaw the design of the resort, which centres on a 1,500-sq-m spa and wellness hub with open-air tear-shaped sky roof at its heart. Here, Baani Spa offers a personalized, outcome-focused wellness programme that’s designed to take guests on a journey to ‘release, restore and regain’. Altogether, the wellness centre comprises treatment rooms, a relaxation lounge, yoga and sound-healing studio, as well as steams rooms, a beauty salon and wellness boutique.

Programming here ranges from crystal and sound healing therapies to lifestyle and health coaching, nutrition lessons and a number of beauty and relaxation treatments.

On top of this wellness programming, the resort encompasses two restaurant, three bars, including a poolside cocktail bar and piano bar with live jazz, and an expansive wine cellar, with cuisine taking inspiration from the geographical ring of fire that surrounds the Maldives.

Completing the experience, guests have a choice between beach, ocean and lagoon pool villas, all of which ensure you’re immersed in the natural beauty of their setting.

Ozen Reserve Bolifushi

Having transformed the island that was previously home to Jumeirah Vittaveli, Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts has created its latest ultra-luxury sanctuary. More than just a rebrand, the opening sees the realization of an entirely new concept for the aesthetics of the resort and the experience it provides.

Guests can stay in Earth, Sunrise and Ocean pool suites, villas and pavilions or in the huge overwater and beachfront reserves, which include the 3,000-sq-m Royal Reserve, crafted from timber and marble with generous outdoor space and playful details like slides. You can alternatively stay on the 85ft superyacht, which accommodates up to eight guests overnight and comes with amenities like a four-person top-deck Jacuzzi.

Restaurants here span the interactive dining concept of Vista del Mar, the modern gastronomic experience of ORIGINƎ, fresh seafood with wine pairing at The Wine Reserve, modern Arabic cuisine of Sangu Beach and poolside bar OZAR for high tea and cocktails.

On the island, time can be spent on the eco-friendly open-air ice rink, unwinding in the spa with 100% organic treatments, taking cooking classes and setting out on a semi-submarine adventure. Water sports here include stand-up paddle-boarding, catamaran sailing and windsurfing. You can charter a private yacht and join the resident marine biologist on a dive to sites such as Bolifushi Wreck.

Bolifushi is in the South Malé Atoll, just a 20-minute catamaran ride from Velana International Airport.
