Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is expected to visit Dhaka in March this year to attend the celebration of Independence Day and Mujib Borsho.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said it to reporters after holding a bilateral meeting with visiting Foreign Minister of Maldives Abdulla Shahid at the State Guest House Padma in Dhaka on Tuesday noon.

He said: “We have discussed several issues like bilateral trade and climate. There were some national and international issues also. Among the notable subjects, a deal will be signed on joint commission and another one on manpower.”

The Maldives will take nurses from Bangladesh. Many physicians have already begun working in there. The good news is that the Maldives announced to provide free Covid-19 vaccines among workers, including foreign ones, the minister said.

At the invitation Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Maldives foreign minister arrived in Dhaka on Monday night on a four-day official visit to Bangladesh, aiming to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

Bangladesh and the Maldives share excellent bilateral relations which have been strengthened over the years. Around 80,000 Bangladeshi expatriate workers are currently working in that country, said the foreign ministry.
