Maldives Customs on Tuesday disposed copious amounts of alcohol and pork that were seized on various occasions.

Liquor and alcohol, as well as pork and its by-products, are restricted items, meaning only permit holders can import them.

The items were destroyed at the presence of media officials, as per the Customs’ regulations at the waste disposal area of Thilafushi in Kaafu atoll.

The disposed items include 89,353 bottles of liquor, 1108 cans of beer and 3411kg of pork products.

Maldives prohibits the import narcotics and psychotropic substances, pornographic material, religious materials offensive to Islam and idols of worship, and live pigs in to the country.
