Viral vlogger filming in Maldives

Internet sensation Nas Daily is focusing on the holy month of Ramadan and the risks of global warming during his visit to the Maldives.

Nuseir ‘Nas’ Yassin, a Palestinian-Israeli famous for his one-minute video clips, is planning to film in the Maldives during his six-day stay in the country.

He will be meeting fans Friday evening at the Republic Square in Malé.

“I’m not exaggerating when I say this is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I’m also not exaggerating when I say that it could be gone soon,” he posted in a video highlighting the dangers of the Maldives sinking due to sea-level rise.

The video received positive reviews from Maldivians online.

“I’m glad that this wasn’t the usual rosy video of ‘Paradise on Earth.’ Truth is, our islands, identities, and cultures are waning, and we’re front and centre of bearing the brunt of climate change,” wrote one local Facebook user.

“We’ve been trying for years to increase awareness of climate change with facts and data, which is of course still important. But I think visual stories of people and place like the one you’ve just shown are a much more powerful way of getting people’s attention. Keep up the great work!” said another.

Nas received an enthusiastic welcome on Facebook by local supporters. He arrived in the Maldives last Saturday and has spent four days at resorts.

The 25-year-old’s Facebook page has more than six million followers.
