US urges enduring democracy in Maldives

The United States wishes to see an enduring democracy in the Maldives, stated the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Atul Keshap, late Tuesday.

Speaking at a Ramadan breakfast hosted at Hotel Jen in capital Male with several diplomats and politicians, Ambassador Keshap expressed hopes for lasting democracy, peace and ensured human rights for all citizens in the Maldives in the future.

Expressing pride in the US’ continuous aid to the Maldives, the ambassador assured the US’ support in improving the living standards in the Maldives, and according to freedom of expression and other freedoms to citizens.

Ambassador Keshap added that he has shared the US’ perspective of the Maldives with President Abdulla Yameen, stressing that the US urges to establish democracy and harmony in the archipelago.
