AccorHotels’ Mercure Maldives Kooddoo is now open and welcoming guests to the mid-scale hotel in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll.
Located adjacent to Kooddoo Airport, the hotel is directly accessible via a 55-minute flight from Male without the need for a speedboat journey. It features 68 villas comprising 43 Over Water Villas and 25 Beach Villas; 20 of which feature a private 3m x 6m swimming pool.
General manager Scott Bowen said he is excited to introduce the Mercure brand to the Maldives.
“Mercure Kooddoo offers our guests an authentic and friendly experience that allows them to discover the diversity of the island’s sights, sounds, and scenes with Maldivian hospitality,” he said.
“We look forward to welcoming travellers who seek high level of comfort, service and quality synonymous to the Mercure brand combined with the Maldivian culture and the spirit of travel.”
AccorHotels has also announced its first luxury destination in the Maldives, taking over management of the Dhevanafushi Maldives Luxury Resort from September 1.
Set on the private island of Meradhoo, the resort will be repositioned following further enhancements in late 2018 to join the Raffles Hotels and Resorts portfolio. Dhevanafushi Maldives Luxury Resort currently boasts 21 island villas and 16 ocean villas with private pools, three restaurants, and a cocktail bar.
“We are thrilled to announce our very first luxury resort in the Maldives at a time when the region is enjoying excellent growth, especially with travellers from Asia Pacific,” said Patrick Basset, chief operating officer of AccorHotels, Upper Southeast and Northeast Asia.
“AccorHotels is bringing to the resort our expertise in delivering unparalleled luxury experiences renowned in our Raffles, Fairmont and Sofitel brands, along with the benefits of our award-wining global loyalty programme, Le Club AccorHotels.”
Meanwhile AVANI Hotels & Resorts has announced its first resort in the Maldives, with the AVANI Fares Maldives Resort scheduled to open in late 2019.
Located on Fares Island in the Baa Atoll, the resort will comprise 200 guest rooms, including standard rooms and a selection of villas, as well as restaurants, meeting space and a spa. The resort’s secluded northern location is easily accessible by sea plane or speedboat.
“The AVANI design philosophy is interestingly relaxed and contemporary and in tune with the environment of this development, using natural textures, colours and materials that reflect the location whilst incorporating advanced technology and modern conveniences,” said AVANI Hotels & Resorts group director Alejandro Bernabe.
“The Maldives is the ultimate beach destination in the world and we are excited to deliver an alternative hospitality offering in the region.”
