Three chefs from the Maldives won gold at a culinary competition hosted in China.
The three participants of “The Belt and Road Gastrodiplomacy Yiyin Cup” are two chefs from Hulhule Island Hotel, Ibrahim Naeem and Mohamed Niyaz, and the wife of Maldivian Ambassador Mohamed Faisal in Beijing, Fathimath Jeehan. Naeem and Niyaz achieved gold medals from the Professional Individual Category while Jeehan won from the Embassy Category.
According to the Embassy of the Maldives in China, the three chefs who presented Maldivian cuisine at the competition had all scored over 90 points in their respective categories and, thus, achieved the gold awards.
The ending ceremony of the contest was held in the Olympic Stadium in Beijing where renowned chefs of China gave away the awards and prizes to the winners. Over 200 chefss from various countries participated in this contest.
The Belt and Road Gastrodiplomacy Yiyin Cup has been held in China since 2001 in honour of Yi Yin, who was titled China Cuisine Saint in Ancient China for his talent in cooking.
