The Ritz Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands Set to Open June 1, 2021

Opening June 1, 2021, The Ritz Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is ideally located at Fari Islands, in the North Malé Atoll of the Maldives, which is a 45-minute journey by speedboat or a 10-minute seaplane flight from Malé International Airport. The resort features white sandy beaches, turquoise lagoons and coral reefs with marine life. The resort mark’s the first Ritz-Carlton property in the Maldives.

DESIGN
The vision behind the resort’s iconic spherical design, led by Kerry Hill Architects, is inspired by the circular forms of the turquoise lagoon and the swirling ocean breezes, embracing the circle of island life, with modern architecture meeting the Maldives. Interior and exterior design are humble, minimalist and visually lightweight leaving little impact on its environment and always maximizing views to the horizon and the connection with the elements.

Minimizing the impact on the fragile reef ecosystem was paramount in the design of the resort. By using pioneering pre-fabricated design methods and materials, KHA has ensured that no cutting was necessary on the island, reducing heavy operations and, crucially, generating zero waste or pollution. Where possible, natural breezes will be harnessed to cool the public spaces, and highly-sophisticated glazing has been used elsewhere to limit the use of air-conditioning. This, alongside the widespread use of solar panels, the intrinsic sustainability of the design materials used and the low‐maintenance natural weathered finish, enables the architecture to achieve a low carbon footprint.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Set above vibrant azure waters or nestled along white-sand beach coves, the resort’s luxury villas blend island living with modern design. Blurring the line between indoors and out, each offers water views, an infinity pool, a spacious sundeck and the attention of an Aris Meeha, or personal butler. The resort features 100 elegantly appointed Villas all with views of the ocean and lagoon. Designed by Kerry Hill Architects, lit by Flaming Beacon.

MALDIVIAN EMBRACE AND LOCAL CONNECTION
The property invites guests to embrace island life from the moment they arrive on its white-sand shores. Guests will be able to absorb a plethora of Maldivian culture and traditions, whether they are relaxing in their luxury overwater villa, watching the sunset from the sandy shore or sipping a cocktail on the resort. The cyclical nature of island life allows guests to embrace the notion of totality and the true spirit of the Maldives. The resort’s beru (the Maldivian name for drums and round shape) is centralized through the holistic philosophy of wholeness that the Maldivian culture and environment support.

AMBASSADORS OF THE ENVIRONMENT
The property has just announced its partnership with Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society and the development of its Ambassadors of the Environment program. In doing so will join the shortlist of Ambassador programs in the world and the first in the Maldives.

SPA & WELLNESS
Cardinal directions offer more than a sense of location; powerful energy is carried within each one. At The Ritz-Carlton Spa Maldives, the experience is built around this idea and shared within a striking overwater structure open to the lagoon. Each of the nine treatment rooms is designed to host a pair, and the spa suite includes its own relaxation lounge. The spa includes a salon with hair and nail services and a boutique carrying renowned skincare brands.

CULINARY
Among the seven restaurants and bars at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is Summer Pavilion, floating over the velvety lagoon. The restaurant offers an intimate, 40-seat restaurant where Cantonese cuisine takes centre stage. Set within a lantern-inspired space, the restaurant is a collaboration with Singapore’s Michelin-starred Summer Pavilion. Dishes, including roasted duck, are designed to be shared and paired with fine Chinese teas and selections from the extensive wine cellar. The private dining room can host up to 10 guests.

RITZ KIDS CLUB
The Ritz Kids Club boasts futuristic indoor-outdoor space with a playground, napping pods, an area for video games and movies, and a pool with slides and jets. The program is designed for ages 4 to 12, with the island’s four pillars – land, water, environmental responsibility and culture – to create a schedule of daily activities including bike rides, pottery lessons, cooking classes and more.

FARI ISLAND ARCHIPELAGO
The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is part of Fari Islands, an archipelago that features three world-class hospitality brands inclusive of The Ritz-Carlton. The guests are expected to have access to a picturesque Fari Marina the archipelago’s communal beating heart. Built around a vibrant Beach Club, Fari Marina features charming boutiques and a handpicked selection of dining options.
