TCL to final – Irfan’s supremacy not in doubt

Club TCL defeats HDC in the semi-final 3-1, to capture the imagination of their supporters as their ascendancy in the tournament is proven.

Mohamed Riffath (Rippe) and Hussain Shareef (Only) played for TCL, while their Coach Mohamed Irufan raised concerns over team selection prior to the match, as both of them had 2nd Division match on Saturday evening.

Mohamed Sujan Ahmed of HDC found the way past Ahmed Fathih (Thaadey), the goalkeeper of TCL, only inside the 2nd minute, when he fired a shot from the left flank.

For a moment, TCL looked tantalizing vulnerable to concede an unexpected goal and that in the opening minutes of the game. However, just after six minutes Mohamed Riffath (Rippe) provided a cut pass to Mohamed Liyah from a free-kick to come in level.

HDC then created good chances to restore their lead. What was most noticeable in the HDC’s attack was the quick run of Sujan from his own half to the back of TCL’s defence, to receive a high ball from his teammates every time. Indeed, he succeeded in receiving them but was not able to notch a goal later.

Meanwhile, TCL came from behind in the 15th minute of the match, to make the score line 2-1. Hussain Shareef (Only) scored the goal this time with another assist from Riffath.

HDC’s haunt to find an equalizer in the second-half kept TCL at stretch. As such, two big chances came on their way in the opening five minutes after the restart. Their captain Yaamin Mohamed (Yaante) missed from close range, and Abdulla Shaafiu (Shaappe) missed another when they came 3 on 1 in a counter attack.

Then in the 7th minute of the second half, magnificent Riffath provided another magical assist to Liyah to extend their lead. Riffath also provided more to Liyah to complete his hat-trick, but Hamid Hassan, the goalkeeper of HDC thwarted some, and some went off target.

In this remarkable night of TCL, everything went just perfect, except the red card shown to Ibrahim Furuqan (Fugey) following a second yellow card. That surely will tense Irufan when they prepare for the final match of the competition.

The final match of the Club Maldives Cup will be played on Wednesday, the 18th April. TCL will face Maldivian in the final.
