President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives Aminath Eenas has said it is unable to improve human rights conditions in the Maldives since the state institutions do not function properly.

Eenas said this while delivering the keynote address at the at the National Human Rights Institution Conference held at Nepal.

According to a statement by HRCM, Eenas addressed the challenges they were facing in identifying and responding to the needs, about the best practices in cooperation across institutions and conducting investigations into human rights violations, and about protections during and after the conflict.

Nepal’s Human Rights of the Commission tweeted quoting Eenas, “we have been facing challenges in the protecting Human Rights. Dysfunctional institutions of gov often hinder efforts to improve rights situation, which is why NHRIs are of paramount importance”

The need for a human rights institution is extremely important under these circumstances according to her.
