Soneva Fushi wins Green Hotelier’s Greenest Hotel Award for Asia Pacific

The 2017 Green Hotelier Awards have named the world’s eco-friendliest and sustainable hotels as part of Responsible Business Week, with Soneva Fushi Maldives recognized as the Greenest Hotel in the Asia Pacific.

Soneva Fushi won over other highly recommended green hotels and resorts in the Asia-Pacific region, such as the Crystal Creek Meadows in Australia, and Jetwing Yala in Sri Lanka. The awarding body noted Soneva Fushi’s carbon neutral state (since 2012), investment in renewables and carbon-offset projects, the ‘Waste to Wealth’ program converting 90% of waste into an income including the repurposing of styrofoam and glass waste into lightweight bricks for construction. Green Hotelier also took note of the Youth Career Initiative program as well and the programs teaching young children how to swim.

Other winners throughout the world include Landgut Stober (Germany) in the Europe category, Chole Mjini (Tanzania) for Africa & Middle East, and El Albergue Ollantaytambo (Peru) for the Americas.

The annual Awards invite applications from hotels of any size anywhere in the world; judging them on their efforts to reduce energy and water consumption, their waste output, their roles as responsible businesses to their employees and in the local community, as well as looking at how they communicate their sustainable and responsible ethos to guests.
