Club HDC booked the last semi-final spot of the Club Maldives Cup 2018 after defeating Allied in the quarter-final 5-3.
Abdulla Shafiu (Shaappe) presented a stellar performance as he fully furnished Club HDC’s win over Allied on Wednesday night, with his second hat-trick of the campaign.
Shafiu, the man of the night, took the lead for HDC with his second on-target shot inside the 8th minute of the match. He then assisted Ibrahim Mubeen Ahmed Rasheed (Mukki) to extend their lead just after 60 seconds from his goal.
Allied made the score line 2-1, with a master class chip over the goalkeeper of HDC, by their astonishing player Ali Liruaam (Liru) just before the halftime. He remained as the major threat for HDC whole through the match.
Allied made the perfect start to the second half as Liruaam found HDC’s goal again, inside the 2nd minute of the second half to level 2-2, to earn a huge celebratory chorus from their supporters.
However, Shafiu responded well after three minutes with his second goal of the night to restore their lead.
Meanwhile, Liruaam came close to complete his hat-trick in search of an equalizer but was denied by the woodwork.
Akram Abdul Rasheed (Aku) extended HDC’s lead in the 10th minute, after collecting a rebound inside Allied’s goal area. That sealed the match for Club HDC, as they fully took the control of the match.
Shafiu completed his hat-trick in the last minute of the match, where he dribbled past two opponents before hitting the ball into the net.
Allied got a consolation goal as the last action of the match, when the goalkeeper of HDC, Hamid Hassan made a mistake to leave the ball in the passage of Ahmed Shujau only to tap-in to the goal.
Club HDC will face TCL in the semi-final of the tournament on Saturday night.
