After a lot of hassles, the Telugu remake of the hit Tamil movie 96 has started to roll with Sharwanand and Samantha Akkineni playing the lead pair. There were various speculations on who would reprise the roles done by Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha in the original and eventually Sharwanand and Samantha Akkineni bagged the offer. Incidentally, Sharwanand and Samantha had not worked together in the past and this is their first outing together, which has created a lot of expectations.
The shooting of this remake is currently happening in the Maldives with the team canning the ‘Life of Ram’ song. Sources in the know say that after completing the schedule in the Maldives, the team will be moving over to Kenya where important portions would be canned. The makers have planned to shoot Sharwa’s portions at Kenya who will be seen as a photographer. The Kenya schedule will last for 15 days after which the schedule will be shifted to Vizag and then to Hyderabad where it will be wrapped.
Director C Prem Kumar, who had directed the original version, is wielding the megaphone for this venture as well. Earlier, there were reports of some creative difference between the film’s director and producer but it was successfully sorted out.
The Tamil film 96 turned out to be one of the biggest hits last year following which its remake rights for Telugu and Kannada have been lapped up. The film received widespread appreciation from film buffs, critics and film personalities. It was bankrolled by Nandagopal under the Madras Enterprises banner. Govind Vansatha had composed music for 96.
The Kannada version, titled 99, is directed by Preetham Gubbi and has Ganesh and Bhavana reprising the roles done by Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha. Recently it was announced that the film will hit the screens on April 26. Interestingly, 99 was the noted music director Arjun Janya’s 100th film and its cinematography was handled by Santhosh Rai Pathaje. The film was bankrolled under the banner Ramu Enterprises. Hemanth and Samiksha will be playing the younger version of the lead pair in 99.
