Rozaina: This budget was compiled by Yameen’s administration

The projected State budget for 2019 submitted to People’s Majlis wasn’t compiled by President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu), but by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration and it is consistent with the outgoing administration’s policies, says Addu Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam.

Speaking during the debate on the budget at the People’s Majlis this Wednesday, Rozaina said the incoming administration was only allowed to allocate a budget for PSIP (Public Service Investment Program) projects, and that the exact figure of national debt as Yameen’s administration comes to end is uncertain.

During the debate, Rozaina said the allocation in the budget for allowances for people with special needs was low despite persistent urging. She said the incoming administration will provide a solution to the problem by covering the cost of equipment needed for people with special needs, and proposed increasing the allocation of funds for people with special needs.

She said the funds allocated to the Family Protection Authority (FPA) was also insufficient. She said discussions need to be held with heads of FPA and the funds increased so they are able to carry out their legal responsibilities.

Rozaina also said Yameen failed to do enough for her constituency – the Meedhoo constituency – during his administration.

A claim echoed by Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef who said Yameen’s administration failed to do enough the Maradhoo constituency.

Shareef had called for resources at the Gan International Airport to be developed, and stressed the potential benefits of developing tourism in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City and Huvadhoo Atoll.
