Red Bull Switch Up is the ultimate netball tournament introducing netballers to a completely unique adaptation of the game and is making its debut in the Maldives.
Red Bull Switch Up’s success in the UK has led it to go global in 2018, with participation from South Africa, New Zealand as well as the Maldives, now having the chance to change the perception of netball in this fast-paced, action-filled game.
Red Bull Switch up is the ultimate netball tournament introducing netballers to a completely unique adaptation of the game. It is a mass participatory, all-female event that breaks netball tradition by championing the ‘all-round player’.
With key differences from standard netball; including the game being played over half a regular court and players being able to shoot from outside the D – Red Bull Switch Up encourages the riskier shots and more exciting play.
Games are 10 minutes (2 x 5-minute halves) and feature 2 teams of 4 players on a half court with one goal. Everyone can shoot and goals are scored: 1 point under the post, 2 points inside the small shooting circle and 3 points outside the shooting circle.
The game tests the versatility of the players; challenges netballers to play differently, focusing on speed, skill and risk-taking – testing players’ all-around abilities. If a team loses possession, the opposing team automatically and immediately switch from defenders to attackers.
Netballers of all abilities can enter and must be a minimum of 16 years old to participate. Only 2 national netball squad players are allowed on each team.
The one-day event will take place on 8th December 2018 at Hulhumale’ Youth Park from 8:00 am till 6:00 pm.
