President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that his priority, once elected by the people of the Maldives, was to serve the nation, to bring peace, to preserve the nation’s Islamic faith and to uphold the constitution of the Maldives. He stated this while speaking at a function organized by the Progressive Party of the Maldives held this evening.
During his speech the President emphasised that the leadership was not handed over to him on a golden platter but described it as walking in a jungle of thorns. The President stated that the opposition is keen to highlight problems in this administration but is unable to point to a single reasoned issue.
While speaking at the ceremony, the President shed light on the fact that a handful of people in the country differs in opinion when it comes to the Islamic faith. He further reiterated that this administration, as per the nation’s constitution, cannot allow space for such contradictions.
Shedding light on the development front, the President stated that the administration was working towards the installation of three water plants in Malé which is estimated to be completed by the end of this year. As per the President this would put less pressure on water production and reduce the chance of water shortage in case of emergencies.
