President Elect meets with Speaker of the Parliament

Inside the President-Elect, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s meeting with the former President, Mohamed Nasheed (R).

President-Elect, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) has met with the newly elected Speaker of the Parliament, the Leader of Jumhoory Party, Qasim Ibrahim. 

The meeting was held this evening at the office of the President-Elect. However, the details of the meeting have not been shared with the media. 

Qasim was elected as the Speaker of the Parliament after a no-confidence motion was brought to the Parliament floor against the previous Speaker, the MP for Fuvahmulah constituency, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed and he resigned from the position. 

Qasim’s name was nominated by the President-Elect and the MP for Hinnavaru constituency, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The nomination was supported by the Vice President of the President-Elect and the MP for Kaashidhoo constituency, Faisal Naseem.  

Aside from being the MP for Maamigili constituency, Qasim Ibrahim has served as the Speaker of the Parliament from 2004 to 2008.  

Aside from the meeting the Speaker of the Parliament today, the President-Elect met with the former President, Mohamed Nasheed as well.
