April 6, 2019 – the day of the Parliamentary Elections – is the day the Maldives will make its decision on reshaping its core system, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih
In his written address to the nation on occasion of the New Year marked this Tuesday, Solih noted 2019 was a year Maldivians will face another great political shift with the upcoming Parliamentary Elections.
Solih said he was confident voters will prioritize national interest “with the full understanding of the current state of the nation and vision of the direction the nation must head to next”.
Solih said the Maldives, in 2018, experienced how much it wanted to protect and uphold the rights guaranteed to every Maldivian citizen by the Constitution.
“And the decision of political leaders to unite and work together in order to realize those hopes is, without a doubt, a great blessing bestowed upon the Maldivian people by Almighty Allah.”
“The Maldivian people exercised their fundamental rights and elected a new administration with noble and high hopes. With the hope of justice and equality in governance. With the hope of cleaning out embezzlement, corruption and transgressions from the State. With the hope fundamental rights and independence will be guaranteed,” said Solih.
The President expressed his wishes for 2019 to be a happy and prosperous year to all Maldivians in every aspect.
