Lawmaker of Dhiggaru constituency Faris Maumoon proclaimed that the joint opposition has collected the required amount of signatures to submit a motion of no confidence against Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh in which the biggest sacrifice was made by the lawmakers of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
Speaking at the press conference held by opposition leaders regarding the matter, MP Faris confirmed that 45 signatures have been collected, which exceeds the minimum amount of 42 signatures required to submit a no confidence vote against the speaker and deputy speaker as per the recent amendment to parliament regulations.
MP Faris stated that the joint opposition parties of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhoory Party and Adhaalath Party have sacrificed much in their efforts to reform the country. However, he declared that now it is PPM lawmakers making the most sacrifices in their cause.
