Police on Wednesday seized the security camera recording system of the building where former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s lawmaker son Faris Maumoon resides.
Police raided Dhiggaru MP Faris’ residence with a court order and took the building’s DVR on Wednesday afternoon, marking the second raid on Faris’ apartment. The first raid took place Tuesday after which MP Faris was arrested under accusations of bribing lawmakers to gain support for the opposition lobbied motion of no confidence against Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh.
MP Faris is currently in the Criminal Court awaiting a ruling on his remand. Police brought MP Faris to court around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning though the Criminal Court is yet to announce a decision.
The warrant states that Police may keep the security footage of MP Faris’ building in their custody for a period of 30 days.
Police have claimed that they have incriminating evidence of MP Faris bribing lawmakers and spreading undue influence to gather support for the motion of no confidence against the parliament speaker. However, Faris has denied all accusations against him.
